History of Turtle Conservation in Sabah
The early history of turtle conservation in Sabah can be traced back as early as 1927 when the administration of the British North Borneo Company recognizes the heavy exploitation of turtle of turtle carapace and meat within the Kudat area. Due to this massive exploitation, few prohibition notices, ordinances and issuing licenses for the conservation of turtles had been introduced since 1929. However, due to various problems such as remote location, threat of piracy and lack of staff as well as enforcement has led to the implementation of these prohibition notices, issued the license and ordinances have failed.
Life Cycle of a Marine Turtle
The sea turtle life cycle starts when a female lays its eggs on a nesting beach, usually in the tropics. From six weeks to two months later (depending on the species), a tiny hatchling makes its way to the surface of the sand and heads to the water, dodging every predator imaginable. *Will be edited
